The Web Application Engineer:
At OANDA a Web Application Engineer works with a team of talented, experienced software developers who are focused on all aspects of web application work including participating in design meetings. Web Applications are a 3 tiered system consisting of a front-end browser, high level programming and a stand alone database. Each Application Engineer touches all three tiers and has the skills and depth of experience to do so. The Web Application Engineer is someone who takes a holistic approach to web technology and is excited about tackling issues that pose a multi-layered challenge. This is a robust software development role that happens to focus on applications that operate for a web based product.

The Skills You Bring:
• A University degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
• Extremely comfortable with UNIX / Linux / Solaris operating systems.
• Utilizes MVC design approach.
• Proficient with one or some of the following programming languages: Javascript, Perl, SQL, Python, Ruby.
• Experience with these back-end frameworks: Perl catalyst, Django, Rails.
• Experience with these front-end frameworks: Prototype, jquery.
• w3c experience: HTML 4.01, CSS 2.1, SOAP, DOM level 2.
• Protocols: HTTP, HTTPS.
• Experience with databases: DB2, MySQL.
• Message/configuration formats: JSON, YAML, SOAP.
• Cross-browser javascript development experience.
• Apache web server experience.
• Experience with AJAX.
• Basic knowledge of trading concepts in stock or forex markets a plus.
