PROJECT BACKGROUND:
Phoenix Geophysics is a Toronto company that designs and builds geophysical equipment for oil, gas, mining and geothermal exploration. Our equipment is sold around the world, with a large percentage going to China, former Soviet Union countries, and South America. Our hardware is among the best in the world, and we will be creating software that meets that same standard.
This position is focused on developing software for new geophysical post-acquisition programs — if you care about good interface design, this is your chance to build something the way it should be, from the beginning. A really good user interface will help our users save time and money when our equipment and software is put to work in demanding field exploration conditions.
TASKS:
• Design and build a user interface for our next generation of post-acquisition geophysical software, building on our existing algorithms and processes.
• Modernize the user interface of our existing post-acquisition software.
• Add new functions and patch our existing post-acquisition software.
Emphasis for this position is on the user interface, but some work will need to be done on the algorithms, with the assistance of geophysicists on staff.
REQUIRED SKILLS- MUST HAVE:
• Previous user interface development experience.
• Strong user interface development skills.
• Experience with data acquisition, manipulation and display.
• Experience with at least one of: Visual C++ 6, Visual Basic 6, Qt/Qtopia, Microsoft Foundation Classes, or Posix.
• Strong English reading and writing skills.
REQUIRED SKILLS- NICE TO HAVE:
• A university degree in a related field (physics, CS, math, or other scientific discipline).
• Experience with more than one of Visual C++ 6, Visual Basic 6, Qt/Qtopia, Microsoft Foundation Classes, or Posix.
• A willingness to travel when required.
Phoenix Geophysics can only hire someone who is either a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident of Canada, or who holds a valid Canadian work permit suitable for this position with at least 24 months remaining before it expires.
