While scouring the internet for interesting coffee related tidbits, we stumble on what seems to be the latest craze from Californias coffee slurping connoisseurs; cold pressed coffee.

It turns out that if you soak the right amount of the right coffee, for the right amount of time, you can create a new coffee drink that is

a) much lower in acidity (normal coffee is very acidic)
and
b) somewhat higher in caffeine.

win/win

it can be served hot or cold, has a flavour that has been described as "tea that tastes like coffee"..

care to try it ?

c'mon down !

Where can you go to get a semi-private tutorial about the world’s fastest growing Linux distribution, and buy a descent cup of coffee at the same time. The only place I know is the Linux Caffe, the focal point for the Linux community in Toronto.

Dave Sullivan, Consultant with Lophyte Technology Consulting delivered a solid presentation on Dapper Drake Ubuntu 6.06 .The knowledge base of the participants ranged for the well experienced to one person who had installed Ubuntu the day before. Dave wasn’t phased when answering the technical questions from the Linux veterans and the more general questions with the Ubuntu newbies. I left the seminar wanting to get home quickly to apply what I had learned.

Suggestion:

How about an Intro to Coffee 101 night, where for a predetermined fee to cover costs, time and overhead, people could sample a range of different coffees, hear more about the differences (e.g. roasting, color, bitterness, etc.), see how preparation affects taste (e.g. espresso vs. french press vs. percolator vs drip vs ...), caffeine levels of each type & method, etc.

We got a new style of coffee, eh, and it's called a "Canadiano".
It uses only organic coffee beans from worker-owned plantations around the world. You'll have to come in to find out exactly how it's made, but it's longer, stronger and un-cut! beauty !

Our sweet little espresso machine decided to leave early, Sunday afternoon, and had to be coaxed back to life by the prompt and tallented commercial espresso machine fixer extrordinaire; Bob Griffiths (416-533-3067). Monday morning customers had to make do with bodum (or French press) coffee, but they still left with a spring in their step.

We GOTTA carry McVitie's penguin bars, don't you think ?

A Kevin "Vortex" McCrank creation.

This is the tastiest Breakfast I've ever come up with, it is also incredibly healthy.

Take a cereal bowl and fill it up 3/4 of the way with Granola Nut cereal (with almonds) add a handfull of peanuts. Then add half 2% Milk and half Yogurt (I like the peaches and cream variety...) and stir. Then toss a handfull of your favorite berries into the mix and enjoy!

3/4 bowl of Granola Nut cereal
1/2 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup Yogurt (your favorite flavour)
1/4 cup Peanuts (unsalted)
1/5 cup fresh berries

Yummerific!!

I've been experimenting with some different types of food over the past few weeks and some of my recipes have turned out great.

In particular, I'm happy with my experiments with bean stews. My skill is now such that I can throw whatever in a pot.. walk away for a while and come back to a fantastic meal.

My focus at the moment has been on simple and healthy foods.. with as little preparation and worry as possible. Skill involves "chopping that" or "making this simmer".
